Uk Electric and Hybrid Cars
Electric cars are the future and will become part of everyday life in the UK, probably much sooner than most people imagined.
From January 1st 2011 Eco-Friendy car grants are available in the UK to cut the purchase price of eligible electric cars by a quarter, up to a £5000 maximum.
Initially 9 fully electric cars made by leading manufacturers have become eligible for eco-friendly car grants with more to follow throughout 2011.
The current list of eligible cars is:

- Citroen CZero
- Mitsubishi iMiEV
- Nissan Leaf
- Peugeot iON
- Smart fortwo electric drive
- Tata Vista EV
- Toyota Prius Plug-in
- Vauxhall Ampera

Charging points for electric cars will be appearing in many more locations accross the UK including more street charging points, and points in retail parks etc.
There should be 1,300 public charging points accross London by 2013, and electric cars are eligible for a complete excemption to the London congestion charge.
Hybrid cars which use a mixture of petrol(or deisel) power and electric power have available in the UK since 2000, most notibly manufactured by Toyota and Honda. These hybrid cars give large increases in fuel economy as well a reductions in carbon emmissions.
Other manuafacturers have launched hybrid cars and more will follow.
